Never terribly comfortable with comedy, producer D.W. Griffith usually assigned such films to his assistants. It was Lloyd Ingraham who called the shots on the 5-reel Griffith production The Missing Links. Set in a rural community, the story gets off to a decidedly non-comic start when a murder is committed. Two brothers, Horace and Henry Gaylord (Elmer Clifton and Robert Harron) are the prime suspects. Each man believes that the other committed the crime, so each man tries to protect the other by confessing. The truth is revealed by a rustic detective, whose manner is as relaxed and easygoing as the story itself. Future superstar Norma Talmadge was seen as the gingham-clad heroine.
