Synopsis by Nathan Southern
The sixty-minute documentary Urban Latino Lifestyle explores the cultural elements that Hispanic Americans have brought to the United States. A co-production of Urban Latino Television and Urban Latino Magazine, Urban Latino Lifestyle is unofficially divided into seven segments, each of which briefly investigates a single component of the Latino subculture. The pic opens with a glimpse of the wheels that Hispanic-Americans call their own - from low-riders to countless well-varied, souped-up automobiles and trucks. The film journeys to the Hispanic barbershop culture, briefly studies modern Hispanic fashion trends, looks at the linguistic phenomenon unofficially dubbed 'Spanglish' - a co-mingling of English and Spanish - and views the currents in contemporary Latin art. Finally, Lifestyle sojourns to a Capoeira (Brazilian martial arts) studio and ends with a foray into current Latin percussion dance beats.
