Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Alan Bates stars as Hamish Partt an alcoholic writer in the made-for-TV Unnatural Pursuits. Simon Gray's teleplay contrives to have Partt begin singing boisterously whenever confronted by a crisis. This occurs quite often as the playwright follows the progress of his latest work, from rehearsal to debut to worldwide tour. His experiences range from the tragic to the comic, and he emerges from his odyssey a changed man. This BBC production co-stars Bob Balaban, John Maloney, and Sara Mansfield in an effective bit as a video-store clerk.
