Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein

The popular team of Francis X. Bushman and Beverly Bayne starred in this romantic melodrama filmed in Chicago by the Essanay company. To avoid marrying, Prince Philip of Hofgarten (Thomas Commerford) and Princess Stella of Strelitzburg (Jane Paddock) convince a couple of American friends, Richard (Bushman) and Helen (Bayne), to pass themselves off as the royal couple. Neither American is told the true identity of the other, but they are soon deeply in love. In a surprise twist, so are the real prince and princess! The handsome Bushman, whose physical attributes far overshadowed his acting capabilities, was often seen in Ruritanian melodramas such as Under Royal Patronage, chiefly, one suspects, because he looked good in operetta-style uniforms. Essanay surrounded Bushman and Bayne with other actors who could appear dashing in uniform, including character star E.H. Calvert, who also directed, Bryant Washburn, and future B-Western star Lester Cuneo.
