Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

A timid country girl's journey from the farm to the big city following the death of her father drives this low-key drama from Brazilian director Suzana Amaral. Having lived her entire life on a isolated farm in the sole company of her loving father, Biela (Sabrina Greve) must adjust to urban life when her father dies and she moves in with her city-dwelling cousin. As her cousin offers to assist Biela in her education and issues of estate, his well-intending wife attempts to teach Biela about life in the city. Despite their best efforts to help Biela adjust to her new life, the young girl only finds solace in the company of the family's servants, frequently dining with the hired help and later requesting to move into their sleeping quarters. Though it seems that Biela's adjustment to city life isn't moving along very well, a chance meeting with handsome Modesto offers a glimmer of hope that is eventually dashed when he suddenly disappears from her life. Subsequently caring for a stray dog she finds on the street, it appears that Biela may be adjusting to her new life in a unique and unexpected way.
