Synopsis by Hal Erickson

One of several British sitcoms to use the television industry itself as a target of ridicule, Turnbull's Finest Half-Hour starred Michael Bates as the title character, retired army major Clifford Turnbull. Taking the reins of Pentason Television, a small, impoverished independent TV network servicing the North, Turnbull intended to run the operation in the manner of a wartime military maneuver. The fact that the Pentason lineup was virtually bereft of talent or entertainment value did not faze the hero in the least. The six episodes of Turnbull's Finest Half-Hour were seen on Yorkshire Television from November 19 to December 31, 1972.
