Synopsis by Gayla Mills
Like humans, animals build and maintain their homes. They worry about keeping the weather at bay and deterring unwanted guests. One of 12 videos in the Trials of Life series produced by BBC Television, Trials of Life: Homemaking shows viewers the amazing diversity of housing in the animal world. Host David Attenborough takes us into these homes of clay, thatch, and mud. Prairie dog towns are featured with their elaborate escape hatches and ventilation towers to reduce stuffiness. You can also see hermit crabs as they aggressively negotiate the exchange of property. This video is being used extensively in classrooms and by home-schoolers as well as by families seeking lively and informative entertainment.
