Synopsis by Hal Erickson
With a jaunty "Buon Giorno," Rick Steves opens the fifth episode of his Travels in Europe series. This time it's a visit to Venice, one the world's "most seductive, historic, and wet cities." After a brief recap of Venice's history as a trade center, Rick guides the viewer through such attractions as Grand Canal, Piazza San Marco, Doge's Palace, and St. Mark's Basilica. Then it is off again through "Europe's Back Door" to Venice's most attractive and least expensive non-touristy areas. Along the way, Rick offers advice on choosing a good travel agent.
