Synopsis by Janiss Garza
Tsuru Aoki -- wife of Sessue Hayakawa -- stars in this drama which, in spite of its sympathy toward the title character, reflects the racial prejudices of its era. Hishuri (Toyo Fugita) has betrothed his daughter, Asuti (Aoki), to Hakami (Goro Kino). Asuti hates her fiancé and she sees her way out through Dr. Niblock, a young American scientist visiting Japan (Jack Livingston). During the ceremony she faints and when Niblock tends to her, she lets him know she was faking. Disguised in gardener's clothes, she escapes to his hotel and begs to be taken away. Niblock marries her to protect her from her father and fiancé, and brings her to the States. Niblock's sweetheart back home is heartbroken to discover he has married someone else, but it soon becomes clear that he and his new bride aren't really in love. Asuti finds romance with Ito, his secretary (Arthur Jasmine). She allows Niblock to catch them together so he has grounds for a divorce. Asuti and Ito wed, and Niblock reunites with his sweetheart.
