Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The Greek The Matchmaking of Anna (To Proxenio tis Annas) top-bills Anna Vaguena in the title role. The maid to a wealthy family, Vaguena finds herself the object of an arranged marriage, thanks to the machinations of the family's well-meaning daughter Ketty Panou. The twist here is that Vaguena hits it off with her predestined spouse Stavros Kalarogiou, but it's her employees who have second thoughts. They are motivated less by the supposed "unsuitability" of Kalarogiou as they are by their need for Vaguena's services as a maid. The Matchmaking of Anna would make an interesting companion piece to the 1968 American comedy For Love of Ivy.
