Synopsis by Nathan Southern
The English documentary Titans of Steam (one in a series of nonfiction films on the British railroad, which also includes the release Strange Trains) highlights the fact that, in addition to the British Rail Company, four major rail lines have crisscrossed Great Britain for 40 years -- the Southern Railway, the Great Western Railway, the London & North Eastern Railway, and the London, Midland & Scottish Railway. The film then poses the question of survival, asking which cars have remained intact over the decades -- and how they are currently being preserved for contemporary passengers. The program studies such examples as The London, Midland & Scottish Railway steam engines; the London & North Eastern Railway Locomotives (including The Flying Scotsman and Sir Nigel Gresley models) and the Mighty Pacific cars on the Southern Railway.
