Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
This epic feature tells the saga of the fabled king Tipchang of Northern Thailand in days of yore. Aside from supernatural gifts and a way with the women, Tipchang (Sombat Metanee) is a noteworthy warrior, and he is made king after many battles which, in keeping with Thai filmmaking tradition, are largely humorous affairs. He is imprisoned by the Burmese for well over a decade and manages to escape, fending off a dynastic challenge by one of his sons and winning undisputed right to his monarchy after a few more battles.
