Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The 13-week series Thoroughbred was filmed on the Bonita Farm of Baltimore, MD, owned and operated by the Bonifaces, a family of professional horse breeders. The series traced the development of thoroughbreds from the initial purchase of breeding stock in the fall, to the foaling and training of prospective racing horses. Debuting April 3, 2001, over the Animal Planet service, Thoroughbred was revived three years later to coincide with the premiere of the same cable network's dramatic feature Big Spender, the story of a retired thoroughbred and the embittered career criminal who saved the horse from the glue factory.
