Synopsis by Mark Deming

Rare Earth were the first rock band to hit the charts under the auspices of the legendary R&B label Motown Records, and their horn-fueled sound earned them a string of hits from the late '60s through the mid-'70s, including "Get Ready," "I Just Want to Celebrate," "Hey Big Brother," "Born to Wander," and "I Know I'm Losing You." The Rock 'n' Roll Greats: Rare Earth features the current version of the group, which includes original sax player Gil Bridges and longtime guitarist Ray Monette, performing a set of their greatest hits for a crowd of enthusiastic fans in 2003.
