Sex and laughter are served up in equal measure in this farcical comedy for adults. Jane Kinsey (Becky Sharpe) is a professional sex researcher who is working on a project about contemporary morals and mores, but is personally frustrated by her inability to find a boyfriend. While conducting on-the-street interviews for her study, she runs into a TV reporter who is also discussing the matters of the day with passersby; Jane soon finds herself appearing on his TV show...and joining him for a date after the broadcast. Along the way, The Playmates stops for a silent-movie parody, a visit with a peeping Tom, a ride on a roller coaster, several satiric commercial spots, and any number of blackout gags. The Playmates also features cameo appearances from noted adult film stars Rene Bond and Sandy Dempsey; the film was shot and originally released in the Deep Vision 3-D process.
