Trapped inside the fumigation room, The Phantom (Tom Tyler) is once again rescued by his faithful sidekick, Devil (Ace the Wonder Dog), who manages to rouse the unconscious Rusty Fenton (Ernie Adams). After saving Diana Palmer's (Jeanne Bates) arrogant fiancé, Byron Anderson (Guy Kingsford), from some of Dr. Bremmer's (Kenneth McDonald) men, The Phantom learns from the jungle drums that the gunrunners are scheduled to meet their native collaborators at Ondu Gorge. When they arrive to the designated location, the saboteurs find one of their numbers (Edmund Cobb) unconscious and marked with The Phantom's telltale death's head symbol. But during the ensuing struggle our hero is forced out onto the suspension bridge spanning the gorge, a structure that he himself has sabotaged.
