Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

An essential staple of music television in the U.K. for over fifteen years, The Old Grey Whistle Test afforded serious music lovers the ability to experience the music of artists whose work may have otherwise fallen through the cracks of the European mainstream. From jazz rock to progressive rock to heavy metal, avant-garde, and little-known American artists, The Old Grey Whistle test wasn't afraid to take a few risks to expose audiences to new music. In this release, Roxy Music make their first-ever television appearance, Bruce Johnson offers a rare acoustic take on "Disney Girls", The Who and Judee Sill make memorable appearances, and The Adverts make history by becoming the first punk band to take the Old Grey Whistle Test stage. Additional, newly shot interviews with presenter Bob Harris, producer Mike Appleton, and a host of musicians including Roger Daltrey, Rick Wakeman, Kevin Ayers, and Jools Holland reveal what life was really like behind the scenes of the U.K.'s most groundbreaking music show.
