Synopsis
Part 2 of three. Pedro Flores, a Mexican working in a Kansas meatpacking plant, sets out to bring his wife and six children to the U.S. The family has been separated for 13 years. Meanwhile, Dominican pitchers Ricardo and Jose begin their pro careers in Great Falls, Mont. The culture shock is severe, but the Dodgers have provided them with terrific "host parents." Naima finally arrives in Chicago from Palestine, three weeks before her wedding to Hatem. She seems poised, but her English is shaky. Israel, from Nigeria, gets a factory job, and his wife, Ngozi, is pregnant. And fellow Nigerian Berine, the sister of executed Ogoni activist Ken Saro-Wiwa, must take a job as a chef's assistant. Back home, she owned her own restaurant.
