Synopsis
Part 1 of three introduces a Nigerian electrical engineer with a wife and two children, two Los Angeles Dodgers pitching prospects from the Dominican Republic, and a Palestinian student who's planning to marry her Arab-American fiancé and join him in Chicago. She's leaving behind her beloved mother, but also sectarian bitterness. And the Nigerians, victims of government repression, are leaving a refugee camp. "I know that a lot of people have struggled in America," says the husband. "But I don't think that America will disappoint me."
