Having promised Phyllis (Cloris Leachman), that she would baby-sit Bess (Lisa Gerritsen), Mary (Mary Tyler Moore) must duck out of the commitment when she is asked on a date. In desperation, Mary begs her boss, Lou Grant (Edward Asner), to take over the babysitting duties. Knowing Lou's curmudgeonly attitude towards grownups, one can imagine his reaction to a precocious 12-year-old--but surprisingly, Lou and Bess find that they're kindred spirits (sort of). "Baby Sit-com" was originally telecast on January 22, 1972.
