Edward Winter, best known for his recurring appearances on M*A*S*H as gonzo CIA agent Col. Flagg, is here cast as civic leader Brian Norquist, longtime friend and political idol of Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore). Alas, Mary's boss, Lou Grant (Ed Asner), has uncovered evidence that Norquist has mob connections, and intends to reveal this information in a searing TV expose. Shocked and appalled, Mary threatens to quit if Lou goes ahead with his damning news report. Much funnier than its premise might suggest, "A Reliable Source" originally aired on February 21, 1976.
