Synopsis by Mark Deming
One of the most popular -- and more musically adventurous -- of the Southern rock bands who dominated the charts in the '70s, the Marshall Tucker Band were still at the top of their form in 1981 (despite the passing of bassist Tommy Caldwell, who died a year earlier) when they taped a concert in New Jersey for broadcast on MTV. The Marshall Tucker Band: Live From the Garden State features the group playing a set of its best-known tunes, including "Heard It in a Love Song," "Take the Highway," "Searchin' for a Rainbow," "Blue Ridge Mountain Sky,""Tell the Blues to Take Off the Night," and many more.
