Synopsis by Hal Erickson

A decidedly pre-Las Vegas Wayne Newton makes his TV sitcom debut as "himself" -- that is, a bucolic farm boy named Wayne Newton, who happens to have a gorgeous singing voice. Persuading banker Mooney (Gale Gordon) to arrange for Wayne to audition in front of a major record-company executive (played by Lucille Ball's real-life husband at the time, Gary Morton), Lucy is unaware that the boy is only able to sing when he's standing beside his beloved heifer, Bessie. Gale Gordon is given the episode's best line: responding to one of Newton's cornpone homilies, the actor bellows "That was about as funny as a hole in a parachute!" Plus, Wayne Newton sings "Side by Side," "Bessie the Heifer," and "You're Nobody Til Somebody Loves You."
