Drivers education is tough enough for student drivers without the entire country watching their trials and tribulations on cable TV. And yet, someone thought it was a good idea to follow a group of drivers-ed students and instructors on a weekly, 60-minute basis. For this was the format of The Learners, wherein novice drivers of all ages and abilities were subjected to a daunting progression of grueling road tests, conducted by a courageous and harried team of teachers. The series first aired January 17, 2003, over the Discovery Channel.
