Thanks to a lengthy Hollywood writers' strike in 1980, the 1981-1982 season of The Jeffersons included several previous-season episodes that had been held in reserve. One of the episodes intended for season seven emerged as the season eight opener: the two-part "The Separation." In part one, young married couple Lionel and Jenny Jefferson (Mike Evans, Berlinda Tolbert) seem to be irrevocably headed for an acrimonious split-up. The couple's parents, George and Louise Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley, Isabel Sanford) and Tom and Helen Willis (Franklin Cover, Roxie Roker) are determined not to let this happen.
