Is being a celebrity truly worth it? This was the question posed by The High Price of Fame, a group of sporadically scheduled 60-minute cable TV specials. Though the question was never fully answered, audiences were given opportunity aplenty to wonder if the money, fame, glamour, and sex were offset by the great and often terrible price paid by those "on the top." For example, the opening episode concentrated on celebrity stalkers, whose misguided "devotion" posed a clear and present danger to their objects of idolatry, sometimes culminating in violence and death.
