Filmmaker Tal Haim Yoffe was tossing some trash into a dumpster in Tel Aviv when he noticed an old photo strewn among the garbage. When Yoffe pulled out the photo, he found several more under it along with a cache of documents. Curious about the story behind them, Yoffe did a Google search on the names in the papers, and unwittingly took the first step on a journey that would dominate several months of his life. As Yoffe attempted to uncover the story behind the pictures, he became caught up in a remarkable and often tragic story of Jacob and Pola Wolkowicz, a Polish couple whose family suffered under Stalin in Russia, were caught up in the Holocaust in Eastern Europe, witnessed the Ghetto Uprisings in Warsaw, sought refuge in Italy, and worked in a kibbutz in Germany. Yoffe brings the incredible story of the Wolkowicz family to the screen in the documentary Hata'aluma bamehola hayeruka, which follows his search as well as the remarkable tales he uncovered. The Green Dumpster Mystery was an official selection at the 2008 Jerusalem Film Festival.
