Historians recall 'a civilization that changed the world' (as narrator Liam Neeson puts it) in a documentary that follows a handful of Athenian notables from 580 to 400 B.C., a period of enormous creativity in philosophy, literature and politics. In Part 1, a nobleman named Cleisthenes introduces democracy. Part 2 examines the Golden Age of Pericles. The conclusion profiles Socrates.
