In each episode, Smith demonstrates several simple but important recipes. This episode reminds viewers that it's important to know our culinary history. The Frugal Gourmet helps out with recipes like Syllabub (a creamy wine punch,) Fricassee of Rabbit, Carrot Pudding, and Indian Pudding. Smith not only cooks, he also discusses the theological and anthropological histories of the dishes he prepares. He brings humor and wide-ranging knowledge into the kitchen.
