Synopsis by Alice Duncan
The Fabulous '60s, a ten-part documentary series narrated by Peter Jennings and originally aired on ABC, is about the turbulent decade when international tensions, philosophical differences, and a movement towards expanding consciousness produced a kaleidoscopic view of life. Excerpts from film and television coverage review significant events in politics, international news, and developments in science and technology. They also provide a look at popular culture, sports, and entertainment. Some of the topics included in this program about 1963 are: 200,000 people participate in the "March on Washington" in support of racial equality and civil rights; Martin Luther King delivers his historic speech, "I Have a Dream"; and after formal requests for Buddhist religious freedom are denied by the government, Vietnamese Buddhist monk, Thich Quang Duc, sets himself on fire.
