Synopsis by Alice Duncan
The Fabulous '60s, a ten-part documentary series narrated by Peter Jennings and originally aired on ABC, is about the turbulent decade when international tensions, philosophical differences, and a movement towards expanding consciousness produced a kaleidoscopic view of life. Excerpts from film and television coverage review significant events in politics, international news, and developments in science and technology. They also provide a look at popular culture, sports, and entertainment. Some of the topics include: the Cuban Missile Crisis poses a major Cold War confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union; China and India's tensions over the Himalayan frontier lead to a border war; and astronaut John Glenn, the first American to orbit the earth, circles the globe three times.
