Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Diplomat's Mansion was originally released in Japan as Tokyo Yawa. The protagonist, played by Hiroshi Akutagawa, is an elderly diplomat facing compulsory retirement. With no source of income, Akutagawa is forced to swallow his pride and rely on his bartender son Tsutomu Yamazaki. The situation is painful to both father and son, who have barely spoken to one another in years. A subplot involves bar girl Reiko Dan, and her relationship to the two stubborn men. Diplomat's Mansion is another slick potboiler from Toho studios, taking a respite from its monster-reptile flicks.
