Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Denny Vaughan, popular Canadian pianist, musical arranger, and orchestra leader, fronted his own CBC television program beginning June 16, 1954. At first, the series was an entertainingly minimalist affair, built almost exclusively around the talents of Vaughan and his band's leader singer, Joan Fairfax. But when Lever Bros. signed on as primary sponsor, the series was expanded (some would say bloated) into a big-budget weekly variety extravaganza, replete with elaborate production numbers, a huge dancing and singing chorus, and big-name guest stars. Much to the relief of Vaughan's loyalist fans, the series returned to its original "scaled-down" format during its final season on the air, with the star welcoming an impressive selection of little-known but talented French-Canadian performers. The Denny Vaughan Show ended its run on June 17, 1957.
