Synopsis by Mark Deming

A woman's long buried past returns to confront her in this drama from German director Susanne Schneider. Judith (Iris Berben) and Jean-Marc (Jacques Frantz) are a middle aged couple living in a rural neighborhood where they run a winery that has seen better days. One quiet evening, Judith and Jean-Marc are at home with their two teenaged children when there's a knock at the door. Twenty-something Alice (Katharine Schuttler) has had an accident with her car and could use some help; while she's a stranger, Judith and Jean-Marc sense she's trustworthy and let her come in and use the telephone. When Alice appears to be stranded, they offer to let her stay for the night. Alice accepts, but soon they discover she staged the accident and her visit is not a friendly one. Years ago, Judith had a child and put it up for adoption; she's kept this a secret from Jean-Marc, and Alice is the long-lost daughter who has come to tell the family the truth about Judith -- though as it turns out, there are more shocking things in her past than an illegitimate baby. Es Kommt Der Tag (aka The Day Will Come) was an official selection at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.
