Synopsis by Hal Erickson
This Portuguese domestic drama is set in a remote rural community. Jorge Sousa Costa plays the new doctor in the area, whose extreme youth works against him. No one is willing to trust Costa, thanks in part to the behind-the-scenes rabble rousing of the older doctor (Joao Guedes) whom the newer one is replacing. A convenient epidemic brings everyone to their senses. At 93 minutes, Country Doctor could have used a bit of emergency surgery.
