Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The first of three film versions of Clyde Fitch's stage drama The Climbers was produced by Lubin in 1915. George Soule Spencer plays a status-seeking gentleman whose every move is calculated to win him social acceptance and financial gain. He marries heiress (Gladys Hanson), who convinces herself that her husband is truly in love with her despite all evidence to the contrary. She finally renounces Spencer when his endless social-climbing brings about the death of her father. Having thoroughly disgraced himself in everyone's eyes, Spencer commits suicide, permitting Hanson to seek happiness with best friend Jack Standing, who has loved her in stoic silence all through the picture. The Climbers was remade with Corinne Griffith in 1921, then again with Irene Rich in 1927.
