Synopsis by Mark Deming

Irish rockers who fused the snot-nosed attitude of punk with the epic-scale guitar sound of heartland rock, the Boomtown Rats were storming the British charts with their second album A Tonic for the Troops when they played a pair of sold-out shows at London's Hammersmith Odeon theater, one of which was captured on videotape for posterity. The Boomtown Rats: Live at Hammersmith Odeon 1978 captures Bob Gelfof and his bandmates in sharp and enthusiastic form as they power through a set of early classics. Selections include "She's So Modern," "Rat Trap," "Joey's on the Street Again," "Like Clockwork," "Looking After Number One," and more.
