Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Newman Flower's controversial novel Is God Dead? came to the screen in 1916 with the less controversial title The Answer. George Foley stars as a man who has lost faith in himself, in the world, and in God. Through what appears to be Divine Intervention, Foley is shown three examples of how faith can turn one's life around.. In true Passion Play fashion, the subordinate characters bear such names as "The Lonely Woman" and "The Lost Magdalene." The Answer was made and released in Great Britain, where to make a film with even a scintilla of religiosity required producers to walk on eggshells when the censors showed up.
