Some unique qualities among the Yemenite Jews are their sense of togetherness and their rich musical talents. Strict in their observance of the ban on using musical instruments, which grew out of the time of mourning for the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, they have perfected the music of song and rhythm, drumming and dancing. The Diwan, a 300-year-old compilation of poetry, inspires the songs sung by Yemenite men. The women sing love ballads and songs about family. Yemenite vocalists Ofra Haza and Noa (Achinoam Nini) also lend their voices to this special program.
