Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The title of this Spanish film translates to Afternoon of the Bulls. Yes, it's a bullfighting picture, and yes, it cleaned up at the box-office in its native country. Part of the film's attraction was its casting of three genuine matadors in the leading roles. Domingo Ortega, Antonio Bienvenida and Enrique Vera are all fairly competent actors, but even if they'd been lousy the crowds would have flocked to see them. Set in "real time", Tardes de Toros takes place during a single, action-packed afternoon in the arena. Director Ladislao Vadja sticks to the job at hand, only briefly cutting away to such "inessentials" as romantic subplots.
