Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
The music of acclaimed classical composer Tan Dun serves as the backdrop for this neon hued stage performance which takes its inspiration from the Chinese tea ceremony. The Bass-baritone Chorus of the Netherlands Opera and the NHK Symphony Orchestra perform under the guiding wand of Dun himself, while baritone Haijing Fu, soprano Nancy Allen Lundy, tenor Christopher Gillett, contralto Ning Liang, and bass Stephen Richardson perform libretto penned by both Dun and Xu Ying.
