Synopsis by Hal Erickson

After the war, only a few Hungarian films trickled into American movie houses. One of these was Tapalatnyl Fold, which gained American distribution under the title Treasure Earth. The central character is Hungarian peasant Joseph Goz (Adam Szirtes), who wins the woman of his dreams (Agi Meszaros) by preventing her marriage to a wealthy landowner's son. In time, however, both Goz and his bride realize that there is no "happily ever after" -- at least not in the economic system that prevailed in Hungary before the war. Thus it is that Treasured Earth segues from a love story to a celebration of the "People's Republic" set up by Hungary's postwar communist government. Needless to say, Treasured Earth didn't get much American play after the 1956 uprising.
