It is the 39th and final day for the castways on the tiny South Pacific island of Nuku Hiva. Sean Rector had been the odds-on favorite to emerge as "Ultimate Survivor," but he was voted off the island in the previous episode, leaving Vecepia, Neleh, Kathy, and Paschal as the final four. When a tie vote for runner-up occurs, the winner is determined via a "ceremonial cleansing," followed by an unexpected fire and a couple of impassioned speeches. At last, the Ultimate Survivor is announced bringing this special two-hour episode of Survivor: Marquesas -- originally telecast on Sunday evening rather than the series' usual Thursday-night slot -- to a memorable close.
