Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
As the Spanish were beginning to lose their grip on the Philippines in the 1890s, Filipinos had a successful revolution and duly elected a government. Unfortunately for them, that did not fit into the plans the Americans had for this former colony at the conclusion of the Spanish-American War. This film takes place during the initial American occupation of the Philippines beginning in 1898. It tells several stories: one concerns a man who immediately kills as many of the American invaders as he can and then runs off to a deserted island. Another story concerns the villagers of Balangiga, who tried cooperating with the Americans at first, and then engaged in a futile and bloody rebel action against them.
