Each episode of Sharks of Steel takes viewers inside the world of the submarine and the submariners who serve aboard them. Used as a weapon for over a hundred years, it was during the world wars that submarines first scratched the surface of their potential, acting mainly as commerce raiders. Later, when nuclear weaponry came of age, submarines became an integral part of this force. This video tracks the evolution of the submersible nuclear threat represented by both Russian and American subs. How these subs are tracked and how they avoid detection is covered in some detail.
