Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Although she is wealthy, Helen North (Cleo Ridgeley) is a kleptomaniac. When she steals some expensive lace from a dressmaking establishment, she manages to throw the blame onto one of the workers, Margery Huntley (Blanche Sweet). Margery is sent to prison, while Helen leaves on a voyage to Europe with her invalid father (Sydney Deane). World War I (in 1915 known only as the European War) breaks out, and after Margery serves her time, she becomes a nurse and goes to Belgium to help the wounded there. Because of the war, Helen's father loses his fortune, and she realizes that her only hope is to find Mrs. Franklyn, in California, a friend of her father's who is sure to take her in. But the appearance of airships causes a panic and she winds up at the hospital where Margery is working. A shell strikes the building, and Margery, believing that Helen has been killed, takes her steamship ticket and goes to Mrs. Franklyn in her place. Mrs. Franklyn grows fond of the imposto! r, as does Richard Carlton (House Peters), a young doctor who proposes. But Helen finally shows up, very much alive. She is so nasty in her attempts to claim her rightful place that Margery is tempted to let her be hauled off to an insane asylum. But she finally capitulates and admits she is the faker. Carlton decides he loves her anyway, and they wed.
