Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

Sandwiched between Workers '80 and Peasants '81, this documentary chronologically records the creation of a memorial at the Lenin shipyards that spanned the approximately 100 days between the August, 1980 legalization of Solidarity and the beginning of the fight for the "Rural Solidarity" union in January, 1981. The monument - set up in December, 1980 - commemorated three shipyard workers who were killed 10 years earlier. The design for the monument was debated since it comprises three iron crosses at the top and anchors at the bottom - not an "aesthetic" monument said some - but it received approval and construction started. In time, the design of the monument was expanded to include a poem by Czeslaw Milosz and images that recall the professions of the slain workers. As the monument is nearing completion, the documentary shows footage of Lech Walesa traveling around to help out other unions in the country, and notes the government opposition to Walesa at meetings. In combination with Workers '80 and Peasants '81, Sto Dni completes the picture of events in Poland at this crucial turning point in the country's history.
