Synopsis by Hal Erickson

This Swedish romantic comedy was based on a play by Gustaf af Geiferstam. The story concentrates on a summer romance between hero Ake Gronberg and heroine Ingrid Backlin. Both stars deliver excellent performances-far better than the material deserved, according to many critics. Fans of the original play were slightly disappointed that the film failed to "open up" the piece and make it more cinematic. As far as can be determined, Stiliga Augusta, which translates as The Pleasant August, was never afforded a widespread release outside of Scandanavia.
