Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Filmed in color, the Russian The Lucky Bride is set in Moscow just after the retreat of Napoleon. The title character (Elena Shvetsova) is the daughter of a bourgeois widower (Makom Shtraukh) who hopes to land a husband for the girl in order to collect an inheritance. In keeping with the edicts set down in his wealthy aunt's will, our hero must find a potential groom with the initials A. F. (the aunt has had all her possessions monogrammed with those initials!) And that's where handsome Lieutenant A. Fadeyev (Nikolai Gritsenko) enters into the scheme of things. The story is very muddled and confusing at times (especially for English-speaking audiences), but the song numbers and comic setpieces save the film.
