Hoping to qualify for Starfleet Academy, Wesley Crusher takes a backbreaking entrance examination. His chances for success or failure may be important to him, but are minor compared to the challenge facing Captain Picard, who must defend himself against accusations of violating the Prime Directive. During his testimony, Picard flashes back to short film clips from previous Next Generation episodes. Written by Sandy Fries, "Coming of Age" originally aired March 19, 1988; the episode went on to earn an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Makeup Achievement.
